Badagry Recreational Park: Community Support and UVOBPI’s Intervention
Badagry Recreational Park (BRP): Community Support and UVOBPI’s Intervention
The Badagry Recreational Park (BRP) is a beautiful community park, landscaped with trees, flowers, and a well-maintained lawn. It was once one of the largest recreational parks in Lagos State.
According to the BRP management team, the park has struggled due to inadequate financial support. In their words:
“We lack financial support. As managers, we realised we cannot do it alone, so we approached the United Voice of Badagry People Initiative (UVOBPI). They obliged and came to our aid by repairing the gazebos’ roofing — removing the grass-covered tops and replacing them with aluminium decorative sheets and necessary wooden roof works.”
UVOBPI shared their own perspective on the challenges:
“For our organisation, assisting the BRP has not been an easy task, as we realised a lot needed to be done. The most worrying issue was that a rainstorm destroyed five gazebos. Considering their poor condition—and the value the BRP brings to the Badagry community—supporting the park became a priority for us.”
What UVOBPI Has Done to Help
A meeting referenced UCSBRP001 was held on 24 August 2023, with the agenda focused on reviewing the commencement of UCSBRP001 Phase 1 — Gazebo 001.
The founder of UVOBPI chaired the meeting.
The founder began by appreciating everyone who had worked tirelessly towards achieving UVOBPI’s objectives and projects. He then addressed the agenda directly and restated the aims of the Gazebo 001 reconstruction project.
Given the severe damage caused by the rainstorm and the overall condition of the park, UVOBPI donated NGN 250,000 to support the reconstruction of the first gazebo.
According to the founder:
“The organisation needs additional funds to achieve its target for the Gazebo 001 reconstruction. With the total estimated cost at about NGN 2.5 million as of August 2023, committed donors and individuals with a voluntary spirit are essential for us to complete this project.”
Although the project officially began on Saturday, 26 August 2023, progress suffered significant delays due to funding challenges. However, we are pleased to announce that Gazebo 001 has now been completed, though a few finishing tasks remain outstanding.
The BRP management committee added:
“We are hopeful that other donors or sponsors will support this cause soon.”
